Some Linky Love

I've been reading my Google Reader feed more and more  these days, mainly because I'm getting fed up seeing the same misery guts reporting in the newspapers time after time.

Here are a few of my favourite posts from some awesome bloggers:

Insomniacmedic brings his 'A' game with his post Missing

Blackfork writes about his stumbling across Killer Joe Piro - back in 1942

Neptunus Lex writes his about his last foray into supersonic flight in his intoxicating post 'Night and Day'

Ambulance Driver had some not very nice news recently, so let's help cheer him up by sharing his excellent post “Winter Wings” by A Day in the Life of An Ambulance Driver

And here is a stunning picture:An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "...

Google - really? I'm that thick?

Oy! Google!!

Cut it out. Okay, I get it, you have access to my email, my photos and videos and even some of my purchases around the interwebs but now you are just taking the mickey.

As you may know I work in a Google environment. I love Google and all that they stand for. Google circles? Still getting my head around that one but otherwise, Google me blue, red, yellow and green.

But stop!

What is this?

I'm in the back end of a website doing statistical analysis of their traffic and you feel I need to know what an iPad looks like? And even if I didn't know, how will the look of a device help my analysis?

Yes Google, I love you dearly, but you caught me on a bad day.

Queen Google

Blogger has a new interface so for now they're safe. I'm not quite up to moving to Wordpress yet. But the second they muck it up - I'll be soooo gone!

And for your delight and delectation today? Google. Yes Mr. Google and his elves have created quite the splendiferous logo for today's celebrity birthday - Mr. Queen (not Steve Mc - Freddie Mercury).

Which, when clicked, gives the most amazing song and cartoon  dance routine I've seen for a while - here;

Allan McNish

In my last, earth shattering, blog post 'Twitter, iPhones and Fast Cars' which caused furor in the world of... well, nowhere really.

Anyway...

I have always been a fan of motor-sport so it was interesting for me to see this week that 'Le Mans 24 hour' was trending on Google, Twitter and YouTube.

YouTube? Here's why:

At the time of writing, this clip had over 2,400,000 views. Nice.

And the funky thing for me? I've been in touch with Allan McNish in the past, discussing Formula 1 stuff on Twitter.

Weird to see someone you 'know' going through such a crash.

How Would You Say 'I Do?'

It all began with a tweet. It was an innocent little tweet

'Guaranteed to make you a weepy mess: Greatest Marriage Proposal EVER!!! http://youtu.be/pnVAE91E7kM'

So I clicked on the link and found this:

Which I thought was AWESOME!!

So I went onto the good ship Google and looked for a few more interesting proposals. You know, there aren't that many intimate, subtle proposals on film, here are a few outlandish, public and I'm guessing, somewhat scary, proposals.

Dancing Google Logo

In all honesty I was just wowed that the Google logo on their search site was dancing. It blew my mind.

I work in the Internet Environment (sounds flashy eh?) and I was still impessed.

Enjoy my quick screen-shot capturing of the event for you.

Oh, and well done Martha Graham on reaching 117 years young!

Tina Fey @ Google

I'm a great fan of 30Rock and Tina Fey especially so I was happy to sit and watch part of the video below. But I got engrossed. Its surprisingly interesting and human. Have a watch and I'd love to hear your opinions in the comments.

 Perhaps former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has a shot at a TV career, if his recent fireside interview with comedic legend Tina Fey is any indication.

The current executive chairman of Google spent an hour with the 30 Rock creator and star during one of its Authors@Google chats at its headquarters in Mountain View, California. Fey and Schmidt discussed everything from her experience raising her daughter to her advice for aspiring female entrepreneurs and writers. If you’re a fan of Tina Fey’s improvisational humor, you’ll love this video.

Google Rule The World

In my post,'iLike it' i explained that I wasn't much of a techno-geek. I do work in cutting edge hi-tech so I guess I actually am a bit more of a techno-geek than I thought.

Anyhoo.... a close friend of mine insists that Google is taking over the world, and thus he hates them with a passion. Not that this stance is actually doing him any good!

I love Google. I love what they stand for which is boiled down to, wait for it, ... The Truth.

The more truthful your website the better ranking you get. The longer you've been telling the truth, the higher you go and so on.

And if you didn't believe that they were taking over the world or you are just interested - here is how Google have shaped the internet;

Busting an iPhone thief

I read this story a while ago and was very impressed it on a variety of levels.

The ingenious use of Google Earth and the iPhone applications themselves to find the thief just blew me away!

I think you'll like you'll enjoy the story too;

Doctors Without Kiddies

I live in a relatively 'interesting' part of the world. Below is a photo that was recently taken from my car as I drove to work. Not to a border crossing or to a remote location near an army base but on a main freeway between two cities.

Photobucket

I also get to see many cars with CD number plates, Swiss Red Cross vehicles and a multitude of UN buses and people carriers.

On some rare occasions I see 'Doctors Without Borders' vehicles and I just don't get what they do that the UN, The Red Cross and the State itself do. So I wasn't particularly surprised to read what JayG over at MArooned had to share on Thursday in his blog-post 'Idi Amin Was A Humanitarian, Too'

Remember, "It's for the Children™"...

‘Border’ struggle erupts over name
Three years ago, after decades of performing volunteer operations worldwide, George Whitelaw decided he wanted to do something that would have a broader impact.
The orthopedic surgeon from Milton started a small nonprofit organization to provide primary care to children in Central America. He called his organization Children Without Borders, because “our treatment is without borders, and our patients are without borders,’’ he said.
Seems pretty straightforward, right? Except that some didn't see it that way:
The operation was running smoothly - it had grown to have a $60,000 annual budget and three clinics in Costa Rica - until last summer, when Whitelaw received a cease-and-desist letter from a similar but vastly larger organization, Doctors Without Borders. The Geneva-based organization, which employs 27,000 people and has an annual budget of more than $800 million, said the group was infringing on its trademark and threatened legal action if Whitelaw did not change its name.
JayG ends with what I think is a very inciteful line:

I mean, I'll admit to being suspicious man by nature, but when a Google search on "Doctors Without Borders" brings up 4 out of 10 hits for donations...
Go to MArooned to read the full article:Idi Amin Was a Humanitarian, Too...Remember, "It's for the Children™"...

Something for when you are bored

When you have a few minutes to kill I suggest you look up the website below. You simply put in an address and you see an actual photo of the place. On the side there is a little blue man who you can move around to get different views of the street.

Above is VPIKE's view of my sister's house. And her car in the drive.

And if you recognize this house please leave me a note in the comments...

A very interesting little software. Invasive of your privacy? I suggest you go and check it out. Oh, and it's as addictive as crack cocaine with nicotine added.

VPIKE - be ready to lose the next few hours.

Dolly & Elvis at Xmas

Oh Jumblerant you silly sausage, how did you get all discombobulated like this?

Elvis Presley in his '68 Comeback Special, air...Image via Wikipedia

The Best Of Dolly Parton album coverImage via Wikipedia

It started off all simple and easy. I thought I'd segway nicely from the Hanukkah post to a Christmas post leaving everyone feeling warm and fuzzy.

First step was to link to Now That's Nifty and his post called 'Your Own Personal Holiday Juke Box'. Over 40 of the top Christmas songs around. Simple enough. I made the mistake of choosing Dolly Parton's rendition of Hard Rock Candy Christmas. I was very disappointed in my beautiful singer's dulcet tones.

Fine. I'll listen to The King whilst surfing the interweb. No-one can beat The King, right? DOH!! As I glide through Google Reader I start reading Mental_Floss (where knowledge junkies get their fix) and they're knocking the very album I'm listening to!

Their number 1 Controversial Christmas Carol is Elvis Presley's Christmas Carol. Luckily not because becasue of the singing or a re-do of the words but because in 1957 DJs were still 'challenged' by Rock 'n' Roll.

So here we are, back to the 'reason d'etre' of this blog;

An open letter to Blogger

Dear Blogger,

Thank you very much for giving so many of us the opportunity to share our feelings, findings and photos with the world at large. I have made new friends, found old friends as well as expanded my mind with your great product BUT why oh why is it so darned difficult to work with?

My award winning and tear jerking posting of last night 'My Brain Beat Me' should have been an easy thing to preview in Google Reader, something like this:

But instead it looked like this;

"Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";..."

Which was rather disappointing as even though it is nonsensical I did in fact not write it.

I spent over 4 minutes writing the post in question, and over 12 minutes thinking about it. Please send me 16 minutes so that I can feel better about Blogger after this controversial and insulting episode. (We know you can do that, you're owned by Google for crying out loud!)

And whilst you're at it please add a YouTube button (also owned by Google) allowing us bloggers easier access to YouTube videos. And a workable retweet button would be useful. And presents, send me presents because I like them.

Oops I feel the meds beginning to kick in...

A mix of two loves

That title sounds a bit naughty doesn't it? I think I'll leave it there to raise the number of visitors to the blog from Google.

Anyway, with the Formula 1 season now over and the last Grand Prix watched, analyzed and misanalysed I thought I'd share with you two things I love: Fry & Laurie and Auto Racing. Like oil and water mixed in a puddle they show a myriad of color .. blah blah blah

Enjoy the sketch

Roman Polanski is a child-raping shitbag

The Munchkin Wrangler is one of my favorite blogs. If you read Jumblerant frequently you'll know that I have the dubious honor of read over 150 blogs a day and so being a favorite really does mean something.

My trends from Google Reader as of about 5 minutes ago;

Jumblerant isn't about politics. If your politics can be swayed by any argument of mine you have bigger problems than whom to vote for. If you want to read a blog vehemently opposed to / pro the current President / Prime Minister / El Jefe then there a lot of blogs out there doing just that.

So here is part of The Munchkin Wrangler's opinion about Roman Polanski the famous film director, recently arrested in Switzerland for an outstanding warrant from the US of A.

framelessImage via Wikipedia

Let’s recap that “matter of morals”: a 40-year-old man plies a 13-year-old girl with booze and drugs to get into her panties, and then proceeds to have sex with her despite her refusal. Now, I’m not a prude, but where I come from, we call that “raping a child”.

Charges were brought, the court agreed, the defendant Polanski pleaded guilty, and promptly skipped the country before the sentencing to evade the punishment.

Simple so far. Did the crime, do the time.

A flange of actors and Hollywood types came together to write a letter, I imagine starting it with 'To Whom It May Concern', stating that Mr. Polanski's arrest some thirty years ago was in fact for “a matter of morals.”

By the way, if you are discussing any aspect of child abuse or child rape having Woody Allen on your team is a real disadvantage. The picture above is Woody Allen and his current wife.

Osama bin Laden would be a better character reference.

Seriously.

Read the article and all comments to Marko on his site, all comments to me down below the beautiful ads supplied by "Mr Google's Team of Subtle Admen".

Blogger ain't so bad

I read a few blogs on a daily basis, you can see my blogroll to the right to see exactly whom.

Through these expert, witty and informational Bloggers I have felt that there are a few out there who are not so enamored with Google's Blogger.

Blogger (service)Image via Wikipedia

I have had some issues with it myself, namely that I want to change the preview in a feed to all of the blog, and not just the first 250ish digits. And I can't. And their Help Section is rubbish.

On the other hand the main moan I've heard form others is that the timing option - to send out a blog at a specific time and date - doesn't work.
But this weekend it did it for me. Twice.

So I guess I won't be ranting about them this blog.
