Never Ever Give Up

I saw this video a while ago and liked it.

Sadly, today it is more relevant than ever to me as I am not only getting wiser but also wider with age.

Gangnam Style - Whats it all about?

My four year old son just adores Gangnam style. For a child who has had language difficulties, the phrase 'gangnam style' comes out of his mouth far too often!

I myself found the music and the video to be fun and interesting, but that's also true for me regarding a line of marching ants on the side-walk, documentaries by Louis Theroux , and of course, the internet.

So what does PSY (the creator and lead man of Gangnam Style) do that drew over 1,500,000,000 views on YouTube?

The video below shows PSY teaching a journalist from the serious UK newspaper The Guardian how to do the Gangnam Style dance. In the clip he explains why the video went viral so easily - it's fun and easy to do. If you can connect with the person on the screen in front of you and say 'I could do that' then you are more than likely to watch the video and pass it along to your friends.

So the tune is catchy and the dance is easy to copy and change to your own desires - is that enough? No, there has to be an element of luck.

This guy PSY seems to have it - and (more) good luck to him.

How deep has 'Gangnam Style' entered into society ? Well, a few people may have taken it too far:

A populare meme

A new fashion icon, undone bow-tie, dress shirt and cuff links t-shirt - very PSY!

Automatic free entrance to the psych ward in many countries in the world

A flash in the pan? I think not. In fact the statistics show that it is as strong as ever, despite everyone and their dog making their own version.

The King of Video Ads

I work in internet advertising. Yes, I get paid to watch YouTube, go on Facebook, LinkedIn and Google all day long. A tough life, but someone has to live it!

Anyway, I came across this amazing video the other day, espoused by many as the pinnacle of video advertising (oh, and it may not be fir for watching at work or at home);

What do you think? Did it make you thirsty?

Game of Thrones Season 3

Its back, time to get the good wine out of the fridge, get the cheesy pops out of the cupboard and put your feet up for an enthralling Season 3 of game of Thrones.

Whats going to happen? I have no idea,. but it looks AWESOME

And for the more serious Game of Throne fans out there, if you haven't already seen them, a couple of sessions with the actors and producer regarding the new season, and seasons past.

I saw this video and thought 'yeah, its easy to knock the big corporations but is there any truth in what they say?' - What do you think?

I am also surprised that Google ahve kept the video up for as long as they have....

The Harlem Shake

So whats all the fuss about? Quite simply, The Harlem Shake viral videos.

Easy to do, easier to share and be seen.

Step 1: Dance a little in front of a camera to the music of "Harlem Shake", in helmet or mask whilst others around you carry on their normal day.

Step 2: At 15 seconds - everyone starts dancing to the music.

The total clip should take 30 seconds.

Simple? Lets see a few different takes on the idea;

A great example. If you have 250+ friends around - go at it!

And of course, in the Aquarium

I Nearly Crashed My Car. 3 times.

It was simple really, I'd been listening to the Popstuff podcast which always brings a broad grin to my face. The girls on the podcast are sassy, fun and in all honesty, enchanting. So when they suggested listening to another podcast I decided to give it a try.

Popstuff podcast

The podcast they referred to sounded harmless enough, 'My brother, my brother and I'. An 'advicecast' whatever that may be. Probably 3 siblings talking about something or other with the bigger ones bullying the youngest one into joining, and no doubt, they'd be making him spill all of his embarrassing life stories.

Worth a listen at least?

My Brother, My Brother and Me is an advicecast for the modern era featuring three real-life brothers: Justin, Travis and Griffin McElroy. For roughly five-sixths of an hour each week, with new episodes dropping every Monday, the brothers McElroy will answer any query sent our way, each fielding questions falling into our respective areas of expertise. We operate like a streamlined, advice-generating machine. It’s both terrifying and humbling to behold.

So I did. And thats when I nearly crashed the car.

3 times.

In a  period of twenty minutes.

Go and listen to the latest podcast here or just click on the thingybob below:

Sweet, sweet listening indeed.

Evolution Or Just Smart?

Evolution is the change in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. Its a 'hot potato discussion' in some countries, on the school syllabus in others and dismissed out of hand in even more.

So explain this:

Give a bird some bread and he'll eat for a day, teach a bird to fish and he'll end up on YouTube.

This Green Heron shows some real learning behavior. It actually lures fish with bread. The method works. The most interesting part for me is, it seems to be hungry but does not eat the bread, unlike the surrounding Ibises do.

Perturbed by Coca Cola Advertising

The first thing I noticed about this video was that Coca Cola weren't calling it an 'advert' or a 'social media' whatever, but were calling it a video. Interesting change of approach.

And then i saw the video and felt surprisingly emotional about it:

Which I guess is today's version of the classic Coca Cola videos, just without the 'buy a coke now' music playing in the background.

Which in turn is not that far off this 2010 advert, which must have cost a pretty penny!

I'm perturbed.

I found me a new hero!

I've been a Formula 1 racing fan for many years now, going back to my childhood in the 80's.

Fast women and loose cars; its what I do.

Anyway, I've been living in a country that doesn't have an F1 presence, for the last 15 years and even though I'm originally a Brit, none of the UK based drivers really excite me.

And then I found him when our eyes met over a YouTube video.

A driver who is hungry for a win, has proven himself in the past, is willing to push the boundaries slightly, and best of all, works for a British F1 team.

Lady and gentlemen, I present to you - Vitaly Petrov. My new Formula 1 driver.

And why the hero part in the blog title? Because as well as having to deal with the British media on a daily basis, garner sponsorship for himself and, it appears, fight for his drive every season, he still has to drive exceptionally fast around a track with other, like-minded nutters.

We haven't had a death in Formula 1 since Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton de Silva Senna in 1994, but five drivers have died while driving a Formula One car at the NĂĽrburgring; only the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has had more casualties!

Sadly Dan Wheldon died in October in Las vegas whilst racing in IndyCar, so these guys are not just fancy hair and interesting accents. This is serious stuff.

So, well done Vitaly - and good luck!
