More Pomplamoose Magic

Back in November (yeah 2013, that seems so long ago doesn't it?) I wrote about Pomplamoose's latest  music video so imagine my surprise when hi-tech guru site Mashable blogged about Pomplamoose's next video which I hadn't even seen yet!

English: Mashable.com logo as of late 2008

Miley Cyrus - You're Responsible

Dear Miley,

You know I love you, and will always do so, for your voice, for your attitude and for the fact that you enabled so many copycat videos that made me laugh.

Actually made me hurt myself laughing.

Miley, Growing Up Can Be Painful, but you made your coming of age, something that we can all smile at.

And the original, in full gloriousness

I Nearly Crashed My Car. 3 times.

It was simple really, I'd been listening to the Popstuff podcast which always brings a broad grin to my face. The girls on the podcast are sassy, fun and in all honesty, enchanting. So when they suggested listening to another podcast I decided to give it a try.

Popstuff podcast

The podcast they referred to sounded harmless enough, 'My brother, my brother and I'. An 'advicecast' whatever that may be. Probably 3 siblings talking about something or other with the bigger ones bullying the youngest one into joining, and no doubt, they'd be making him spill all of his embarrassing life stories.

Worth a listen at least?

My Brother, My Brother and Me is an advicecast for the modern era featuring three real-life brothers: Justin, Travis and Griffin McElroy. For roughly five-sixths of an hour each week, with new episodes dropping every Monday, the brothers McElroy will answer any query sent our way, each fielding questions falling into our respective areas of expertise. We operate like a streamlined, advice-generating machine. It’s both terrifying and humbling to behold.

So I did. And thats when I nearly crashed the car.

3 times.

In a  period of twenty minutes.

Go and listen to the latest podcast here or just click on the thingybob below:

Sweet, sweet listening indeed.

I do enjoy me some new music, and Pomplamoose is one of my fave new bands. I've written about them when they did a great cover of Angry Birds music.

And here they are again, showing just what great musicians and indeed, actors and dancers, they are as they begin the change from popular music to electronic:

What do you think?

And if you go and look at the old videos you'll see how Jack changes his style...

James Bond is Back!

Jimmy B is coming back with what looks like another amazing, action packed. stunning movie.

And for a change, I think I might even go and watch it in the cinema / movie theatre.

I've not been to a cinema since 19 December 2003, when the 3rd part of the Lord of the Rings Saga was released, I just don't like them. Everyone crammed in to a small area, sharing the movie experience with complete strangers - just not my thing.

With the new era of deluxe cinema experiences I think I'd like to take Mrs. Jumblerant out and show her what modern snack eating and soda drinking is all about.

Description unavailable

And, in this glorious celebratory year for Queen Elizabeth II, I'll get to see a bit of Ol' Blighty in the process!

Maurice Sendak dies at 83 - Where The Wild Things Were

Cover of "Where the Wild Things Are"

Maurice Sendak dies at 83; artist and writer best known for "Where the Wild Things Are".

I never read this iconic book as a child, but oddly enough, my wife bought a copy for our 3 year old just last week, so I read it just the other day.

I didn't realise that illustrating a book could be so deep and meaningful, but here is Mr. Sendak explaining his way in life. I found this short video to be even more interesting than most books I've read in the last 5 years;

And here he is on life and death.

CSI - Miami Style

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "I do like me some CSI Miami".

Official seal of Village of Key Biscayne
Image via Wikipedia
The fact that my sister's home town of Key Biscayne is regularly shown and referred to does make me grin. And the knowledge that the whole series is filmed in LA, on the other side of the country, does cause a wry grin to creep across my face.

But most of all it is the pure cheesiness of the thing that keeps me hooked.

I've been to Miami many times, and NO-ONE wears pastel coloured clothing. Except for the very old people, and that's only when they're going out for supper - at 5pm.

So finding this compilation of David Caruso one-liners cheered me up on an otherwise cold and mundane workday.

All 2011 Films in Under 8 Minutes

This video finally answers the question: What would the entire year in film look like as one massive, epic trailer? Mashup artist “hatinhand” stitched together pretty much every major film released in 2011 into this epic video, “The 2011 Portfolio” which is as much a retrospective as it is a glimpse into how similar films have become.

On a personal level it made me sit up and notice what I've been missing by just watching the 'regular' TV shows.

Methinks it might be time to spice up my life a bit with a few films to watch with Her Indoors.

Even if you hate Christmas music, you’re going to love this

Sean Quigley is quite the enterprising young man. An 11th grade student, Quigley arranged and composed this version of Little Drummer Boy, then starred in the video that he also edited and directed.

Oh yes, and he also played all the instruments.

And sang it.

The energy and emotion in this video is really rather surprising, especially for such a young and unknown musician.

Stephen Lynch - funny man

I was just listening to some groovy tunes on grooveshark.com at work. Chilling away as I checked certain aspects of our agency's 65 website. I decided to draw away from my normal diet of Country & Western as I was finding myself dreaming of the wide open plain and riding a horse.

My good chum Daniel Benisty did an amazing cover of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen;

So I decided to listen to a few more covers of the self same song.

Then I started listening to a refreshing live song. And I giggled, then I laughed, then I had to lift myself off the floor;

Then I started listening to his album, The Craig Machine, and found some real gems -

Enjoy - and drop me a line if you have some funny music I can listen to on my commute.

The kids of today

Not like in my day when we had marching bands and ghillie suits. Oh wait, that can't be right....

But they did bring us the internet classic which has over 51,444,817 hits with them dancing all over treadmills.

As well as this great music video - beats the bollards out of Micheal Jackson multi-million dollar videos.

Pacific Disappointment

I've just finished watching the first in a series of shows by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and I'm quite disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of these giants of the movie industry. I loved 'Band of Brothers' and no doubt I'll enjoy the rest of the series of 'Pacific' but right now its not doing it for me.

Oxford University Edition cover of With the Ol... I understand that 'Pacific' is based very loosely on Eugene Sledge's book With the Old Breed At Peleliu and Okinawa. This is a masterpiece of a book which I have read, and reread often. It really brings war on the Japanese front alive in a way that few other books have been able to do.

If you want  a few good books about the 2nd World War and are fed up with Stephen Ambrose's regurgitation of the same few stories under different titles then may I suggest the following;

A Writer at War - Vasily Grossman, with the Red Army 1941 - 1945
Sniper on the Eastern Front, Albrecht Wacker (The German side of battle)
The Day the War Ended - Martin Gilbert (A myriad of 2WW first hand accounts)

Cover of "A Writer at War: Vasily Grossma...But I digress. "Pacific" doesn't follow the same format as Band of Brothers which is a bit of a shame as we don't go through training with the 'team'. We don't know their names, we don't know their ranks or place in the hierarchy of the unit. So all we get to see are a few Marines going to war.

So far I can take it or leave it. There is no doubt in my mind that I'll watch the whole series, I just don't really care right now what happens to the characters. Which, I guess, is a shame.

Bod, Flumps, Trumpton and more

I was talking to Mrs Jumblerant the other day about what DVDs we should buy our young son Jack as he begins to take an interest in the TV (idiot box, boob tube - whatever!). Wifey explained that as she was the 4th of 5 kids she never got to watch children's TV, and was thus brought up on Happy Days, The Brady Bunch and Little House On The Prairie.

This saddened me. I was brought up on amazing shows such as Bod:

The ever interesting and novel Trumpton:

The colorful and highly musical Rainbow:

And of course, not forgetting , the amazingly hi-tech Flumps:

We only ever watched Jamie And The Magic Torch at University, when we were exceptionally drunk...

I'm not sure what these shows did to or for me, but I hope I'm a better person for it!!

My in-laws are arriving in less than half an hour and as the computer is situated in the spare room the blog will be sparse for the near future.

Have some seasonal fun out there now y'all.

Kill the little green invaders!

I recently watched a very interesting TV show about the ring-necked parakeets that have become so prolific in England and other European countries. It included an interview with the holiest nature man of all time, Sir David Attenborough. Pictured below with a baby bird.

The Great British Parakeet Invasion was shown on British TV on 4th September 2009 so I guess its rather timely that less than a month later 'open season' has been declared on these colourful little squawkers that have invaded copses all over the UK with their bright plumage and noisy calls.

Sadly the ring-necked parakeet is now a viable target for farmers, councils and really anyone with an air rifle (we are talking about the UK here) who finds them to be a nuisance *

I guess success has its drawbacks.

The cheapest toy

Like most people in the current economy I try to save money wherever I can. We just moved house and so now our budget is smaller than ever before.

Even I couldn't have hoped for this;

The cheapest toy.

Ever.
