Never Ever Give Up

I saw this video a while ago and liked it.

Sadly, today it is more relevant than ever to me as I am not only getting wiser but also wider with age.

What An E-commerce Website Shouldn't Look Like

I despise websites that make it nearly impossible to buy from them. I'm also lucky enough to work in a position where I can control my own clients' websites (to some degree) from becoming evil.
Image representing Google as depicted in Crunc...

Instead of showing you a variety of naff websites, I thought I'd show you how Google sees websites that just don't help users. Their explanations are great and should be shared to the world!*

Monster Hunter Legion - Limited Signed Edition

Some people call me a space cowboy yeah, Some call me the gangster of love,Some people call me Maurice,Cause' I speak of the pompetous of love.
None of which is true about me at all whatsoever.

However, when the great lyrics continue;
Cause' I'm a picker, I'm a grinner, I'm a lover, and I'm a sinner, playin' my music in the sunI'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a mid-night toker, I get my lovin' on the run
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Yes, there is a bit of me in that. But I'd change just one thing. I'm a reader. I'm a voracious reader. My home library has over 500 books.

Library
Ambrose, Clancy, Baldacci, Kathy Reichs, Keegan, Kotler, Burford, Chambers, Robert Mason, Linderer, Silva, Griffin, Cornwell, and yes, the list goes on.

And that list has been added to by a young and exciting author named Larry Correia.

So what's so great about Correia's writing? I can't explain (which is probably why he is the author and I'm the fanboy  blogger!)

He writes about vampires and orcs and ogres and werewolves, special powers, normal humans and past events. Things I would not touch with a bargepole in any other book I have read. Ever.

English: New York Times Bestseller Larry Corre...
New York Times Bestseller Larry Correia
The way he writes about them really brings them to life and into a reality but in a way that gives them personality and drive. Its funny, cute, interesting, thrilling, enthralling, sad and real.

A mother-in-law who is a vampire. A foe who is an ogre. A friend who is a werewolf. An ornamental gnome who kicks his ass...

Don't take my word for it, go over to his website and read about him and then go buy the books!

I've mentioned the Axis of Awesome before here. So I was, and I don't use this phrase lightly, 'well chuffed' to see them on Damn Cool Pic's blog performing a very interesting little '90s megamix  on the melodica.

As the great man says himself 'What's better than a '90s megamix? A '90s megamix played on melodica, that's what! Take a look at this compilation of '90s hits played on a curious instrument'

Some Linky Love

I've been reading my Google Reader feed more and more  these days, mainly because I'm getting fed up seeing the same misery guts reporting in the newspapers time after time.

Here are a few of my favourite posts from some awesome bloggers:

Insomniacmedic brings his 'A' game with his post Missing

Blackfork writes about his stumbling across Killer Joe Piro - back in 1942

Neptunus Lex writes his about his last foray into supersonic flight in his intoxicating post 'Night and Day'

Ambulance Driver had some not very nice news recently, so let's help cheer him up by sharing his excellent post “Winter Wings” by A Day in the Life of An Ambulance Driver

And here is a stunning picture:An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "...

More Amazing Bloggers To Follow

I've started a new job recently and as I am now at the computer 25 hours a day I have been somewhat remiss on keeping up with 'mon bloggage'.

I dipped into Google Reader today and stumbled upon 3 insanely different blogs which I regularly read and smile at. What they had to say made me think about who I am, or more specifically, what I read to improve myself.

Here are the blogs;

And I'd just like to add that Blogger really is beginning to pish me off. I have tried repeatedly to change the font and layout of this and previous posts to no avail.

I am seriously considering moving over to WordPress because of it. What do you think? Good or bad idea?

Where To Go And What To Do?

I've been thinking about where this blog is going and what it’s all about recently, as I have found myself with more time to focus on Jumblerant than I had expected.

Its not like I’ve been thinking too deeply mind you, after all its a blog, not the answer to life itself, the solution to MidEast problems or even the ultra-secret formula to Coke.

So I turned to some bloggers who I really respect, like Frank W. James over at Corn, beans, spent brass, an empty page and a deadline where he posts great movie reviews like this one on Hanna - which I'd never heard of before but now really want to watch! Or this general blog called When Things Go Wrong On The Farm which is just an example of his blogging greatness.

Then I went over to Jay G at Marooned  and saw some funny stuff, which is more like the output I've been creating recently. So I was relieved to see that I was not the only one out there blogging this (for want of a better word) genre.

And finally I visited ASM826 over at Random Acts of Patriotism and saw some of his posts such as Doing My Part (aka Save the Tatas) where I concluded that there really are great bloggers out there who I can try and emulate.

And I will strive to do so!

Random Thoughts part deux

We had the first heavy rains of the winter on Friday so I was going to rant about how cars aren't made of paper and at over a tonne a piece, can quite happily go through a puddle or two - thinking that goes against what most of my fellow countrymen believe.

A light chocolatey dessert ... I love it chill...

Our Friday night guests canceled on us because of the weather so now Mrs J (aka 'Her Indoors) now have 2 chickens, a half kilo of rice and a whole chocolate mousse to get through. And I was going to rant about that too but going through a chocolate mousse really isn't a bad thing!?!

And then I started going through the blogs I follow on Google Reader and came across a few things you might find interesting, just not finger licking good!

At Random Acts of PatriotismASM 826 posted this fund raising blog:

Semper Fi

All we need is the will and the vision. We have the finest trained, best equipped military in the history of the world.

The music in this video can be purchased from iTunes, profits to support the men and women of the Armed Forces. Details here.

Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men.

And for Firefly / Serenity fans like myself SigBoy's posting about the TV show 'Castle' made me smile:

I'm happy to say that Peter from Bayou Renaissance Man is not only feeling better after his QUADRUPLE BYPASS (!!) but has also already had the chance to blog about his near death experience.

Now that is one committed blogger. Or is it a blogger that should be committed?

Personally I think Peter would agree that he'd have preferred having quadruple chocolate cake...

Roman Polanski is a child-raping shitbag

The Munchkin Wrangler is one of my favorite blogs. If you read Jumblerant frequently you'll know that I have the dubious honor of read over 150 blogs a day and so being a favorite really does mean something.

My trends from Google Reader as of about 5 minutes ago;

Jumblerant isn't about politics. If your politics can be swayed by any argument of mine you have bigger problems than whom to vote for. If you want to read a blog vehemently opposed to / pro the current President / Prime Minister / El Jefe then there a lot of blogs out there doing just that.

So here is part of The Munchkin Wrangler's opinion about Roman Polanski the famous film director, recently arrested in Switzerland for an outstanding warrant from the US of A.

framelessImage via Wikipedia

Let’s recap that “matter of morals”: a 40-year-old man plies a 13-year-old girl with booze and drugs to get into her panties, and then proceeds to have sex with her despite her refusal. Now, I’m not a prude, but where I come from, we call that “raping a child”.

Charges were brought, the court agreed, the defendant Polanski pleaded guilty, and promptly skipped the country before the sentencing to evade the punishment.

Simple so far. Did the crime, do the time.

A flange of actors and Hollywood types came together to write a letter, I imagine starting it with 'To Whom It May Concern', stating that Mr. Polanski's arrest some thirty years ago was in fact for “a matter of morals.”

By the way, if you are discussing any aspect of child abuse or child rape having Woody Allen on your team is a real disadvantage. The picture above is Woody Allen and his current wife.

Osama bin Laden would be a better character reference.

Seriously.

A note on hotlinking

In my last post I added an image from Robb Allen's blog 'Sharp as a Marble'. I always found his blog interesting and actually laughed out loud (aka lol) at this one today.

Its about how to bloggingly behave.

Read the post and realise that lazy / selfish bloggers may have more than they bargained for on their pages.

They put up this (as I did)butafter stealing his bandwidth got this.

Blogger ain't so bad

I read a few blogs on a daily basis, you can see my blogroll to the right to see exactly whom.

Through these expert, witty and informational Bloggers I have felt that there are a few out there who are not so enamored with Google's Blogger.

Blogger (service)Image via Wikipedia

I have had some issues with it myself, namely that I want to change the preview in a feed to all of the blog, and not just the first 250ish digits. And I can't. And their Help Section is rubbish.

On the other hand the main moan I've heard form others is that the timing option - to send out a blog at a specific time and date - doesn't work.
But this weekend it did it for me. Twice.

So I guess I won't be ranting about them this blog.
