Gangnam Style Breaks YouTube

You may have noticed that I have been a tad heavy on the posting of videos recently, and no, that is not going to change in the near future! In fact, as I was scrolling through my Google+ account today I stumbled across something that I found very interesting.

Gangnam Style by PSY has the highest number of views of any YouTube video. Ever.

So many views, in fact, that Google had to rewrite the code for the YouTube counter!

Whilst they rewrote the code they also put in a fun little 'doohickey' that spins the number like a one-armed bandit.

So Gangnam Style now has..... wait for it.... 2,151,949,101 views.

Yes. 2 BILLION views and counting.

That is literally phone number numbers where I come from.

Here is the video in case you want to go and check it out yourself;

Life-changing Technology

Just looking around my desk at work I have my iPhone charging, my laptop charging whilst running on 3 screens, my Pebble smart watch charging and of course, my cappuccino which is recharging me!

Where is technology taking us? Nobody knows. Some claim to know but even they can be exceptionally wrong so here is a variety of people's uses of modern technology. FOr what they want to use it for;

Google Glass everyday use:

The amazing new uses for GoPro cameras:

And of course - my last blog post, below, about how plastic technology is slowly choking the planet to death - you know, to keep this light and fun...

Playing Catch Up

Since I last blogged a few fun things have happened:

Pomplamoose released their interpretation of James Brown's 'I Feel Good', which is pretty awesome, with an even more stunning video.

My favourite April Fool's joke did the rounds - and with 26 million views, I guess I'm not alone in liking it!

The 1st of April, part 3

So far we have seen Airbnb create an offshoot - Aibrb, seen the Queen rock-climbing the White Cliffs of Dover, and we have 'The Others', what else is happening today, the 1st of April:

1. What happens if Scotland secedes from the UK

2. As a result of regulatory pressure, the Choir of King's College Cambridge is to stop using boy trebles, it was announced today.

The high voices in the choir have been provided by boys for more than five centuries. In future, high vocal parts will be performed by altos breathing helium.

3. Who will replace The Queen on the pound coin if Scotland secedes?

4.  Tech site Pocket-lint have clearly given some thought to the biggest problem with Google Glass - it just makes you look daft. With merely a tinge of creepiness, they announce the Google Glass Solo, all the fun of Google Glass, but in a monocle.

5.Piers Morgan is to take up a media-consulting role for the Liberal Democrats ahead of the next general election, according to a senior party figure.

6. Huffington Post UK's 2014 April Fools' joke is an apocalyptic, frighteningly possible vision of the Lib Dems' future.

7. Square eggs being laid in Suffolk

8. Golden eggs laid in Devon

9. And Amazon, oh Amazon, when it turned out that the drone delivery dream had died, you came up with this, the newer, older Kindle.

Password Puzzle

mail, local banking, original bank account, work computer, work email, Google Analytics, AdWords, Webmaster tools, LinkedIn general, LinkedIn Ads, Facebook. CMS as work.

Gmail. iTunes. Office WiFi. Car.

Password (game show)
Password (game show) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Just a few of the passwords / pass codes that I need to remember in my every day life.

Between you and me (please don't tell the world) the majority of access passwords are written down on scraps of paper and then pinned to my wall, that way, if someone wants to break into my Google Ads account then not only do they need to have an insane desire to do so, but they need to be in my office too!

Generic passwords are not my thing. Using 'Password' as a password seems a bit silly to me. Phone numbers mixed with dates or names are probably the best way to go. Or zip codes.

So here is a nearly plausible scenario about a standard recovery password.

Enjoy!

YouTube Music Awards - A Surprising Winner

I love all things Google, thats why this blog is written on Blogger and in Chrome. I won't say that everything they do is amazing, like any multinational organisation they have their good points, and their not so good points.

The latest thing to come out of YouTube is their Music Awards. Instead of pressing a button to vote, or submitting your email address, they have chosen a much better way. Tweets, likes and G+s.

Very simple. You like an artist? Tweet, FaceBook 'like' or Google+ the YouTube Music Video of them.

Nice.

I voted for her majesty the Katy of Perry for she is funny, gorgeous, voluptuous and a real person.

So I was happy to see that a hospital had done a cover of her latest single 'Roar'. And it rocked:

See if you can keep your eyes dry through that!

I Have No Idea How An Engine Works

Not an exactly true title there, and a bit embarrassing considering that I am an addict for Formula 1 but I think you get the point. Most people 'know' that a car engine works by turning the key and pressing on the accelerator.

This shows how an engine for a Triumph car was taken apart, and rebuilt.

I think the title for the video is very apt:

11 Months, 3000 Pictures and a lot of coffee

I'm Crying

Well, it's my birthday and I can cry if I want to, cry if I want to...

Whilst working today I was surprised then scared then smiled at the Google logo for today:

What? This wasn't your Google logo today?

What else happened on this momentous day? Courtesy of Mostly Cajun;
1780 – At the Battle of Waxhaws, Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton massacres Colonel Abraham Buford’s continentals allegedly after the continentals surrender. 113 Americans are killed. Nothing like a good massacre to show how you really feel.
1849 – Lincoln says “You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of people some of time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of time”. The dimmocrat party says “all you gotta do is fool enough to get yourself elected, then screw the rest…”
1864 – Emperor Maximilian of Mexico arrives in Mexico for the first time. He has the full backing of the French government which naturally means he’s a despot, later executed by his own rebellious people.
1886 – Chemist John Pemberton places his first advertisement for Coca-Cola, the ad appearing in the Atlanta Journal.
1942 – Bing Crosby, the Ken Darby Singers and the John Scott Trotter Orchestra record Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas”, the best-selling Christmas album in history, for Decca Records in Los Angeles. Come Christmas time, it’s either this, or “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”.

1953
 – Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay are the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest, on Tenzing Norgay’s (adopted) 39th birthday. Hillary Clinton, born in 1947, is, by her own words, named after Sir Edmund, who was completely unknown in 1947, which means she should be president.
1977 – Janet Guthrie becomes first woman to drive in Indy 500, completes first ten laps while applying mascara.
1987 – Michael Jackson attempts to buy Elephant Man’s remains, offering a slightly used Cub Scout troop and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Anyway, back to the birthday cake, candles and mountain of gifts!

The King of Video Ads

I work in internet advertising. Yes, I get paid to watch YouTube, go on Facebook, LinkedIn and Google all day long. A tough life, but someone has to live it!

Anyway, I came across this amazing video the other day, espoused by many as the pinnacle of video advertising (oh, and it may not be fir for watching at work or at home);

What do you think? Did it make you thirsty?

What is the Internet?

An interesting question, no doubt. The internet is a place where everyone can place and retrieve any information they want. Simple enough? Oh, but how they do it, what tools they use and how we ourselves interface with it is something else altogether.

I think this little video explains it very well.

What An E-commerce Website Shouldn't Look Like

I despise websites that make it nearly impossible to buy from them. I'm also lucky enough to work in a position where I can control my own clients' websites (to some degree) from becoming evil.
Image representing Google as depicted in Crunc...

Instead of showing you a variety of naff websites, I thought I'd show you how Google sees websites that just don't help users. Their explanations are great and should be shared to the world!*

Bing booboo

I recently received an email from Bing inviting me to 'Be one of the first to try out the new Bing'.

Very nice! Maybe they're ready to fight Google for search engine presence, maybe its a revolution that's going to rock the internet. Facebook IPO?

This might be just the announcement to knock the multi-billion dollar Facebook off headline news.

So I click on the link, anticipating a change that'll knock my socks off.

Oh yeah baby. Here we go.

The revolution is here.

Google is going to be toppled!

Silly buggers!

Oh well, back to trustworthy and reliable google.com
