Its A Sad Day

So many people have written about the untimely death of Robin Williams. One of the smiley, happy guys, but like many clowns, there were tears behind the mask.

Such a comic genius, he even blew one of my comedic heroes, Craig Ferguson, out of the water and Craig even acknowledges it at around the 13 minute mark:

You know whats amazing? I'm watching clips of Robin on YouTube and I see just how much he made us laugh. A comedian that can make other comedians laugh is definitely special.

Such a giving, caring, funny genius.

I think the Huffington Post's headline says it best:

Why Craig Ferguson is a God

I've liked Craig Ferguson for a long time now, in fact I didn't like him at all when he worked on The Drew Carey show, but his improvisation and stand-up have always been just hilarious.

His 2009 book 'American on Purpose' was very well written and a really good look into his life. It also led me to read his earlier book, 'Between the Bridge and the River' which which I found to be very thought provoking indeed.

So it was with great pride that I stumbled across this clip on YouTube of him explaining why life sucks.

Notice how he 'tags; the camera before talking? That's his little way of reminding himself that he is talking to real people out there, not just a camera.

American on Purpose, The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot

American on Purpose, The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot by Craig Ferguson
LOS ANGELES, CA - JANUARY 14: Host Craig Fergu...

Yes, that Craig Ferguson.

I’m not a huge fan of his. I liked him in The Drew Carey Show and he was an interesting actor in a few films and sitcoms. But I do like him on The Late Late Show. One episode really got to me, the one where he talks from the heart about why he became an American citizen. It is on YouTube in 4 or 5 parts – go Google it!!

I bought this book because I respected the guy and I wanted to see what his story was.

Its an interesting story about a Scottish lad who actually didn’t have it so tough, turned to comedy and mad a go of it. The real story is in how he made it despite of himself. Drugs, women and kilts.

Oh, and did I mention that he is an alcoholic? And was serious about committing suicide at least one time?

An interesting guy, an interesting book and definitely worth a read.
