May Well Lose a few Followers Here...

Back to Blogging

Its been a while and I missed you folks.

My life is beginning to fit around my new job and life is looking good. I don't want to jinx it or anything so that's all I'm gonna say about that.

My new job does involve a further commute than I had before, which in fact was going from the kitchen to the study, so I have had a chance to look at the other drivers on the road and their behaviour.

Please take into account that I was a police driver for 9 years and thus, when I 'call a spade a spade' - it is in fact with a few years and hundreds of thousands of miles under my belt.

Women really are bad drivers

Whenever I see a car weaving in the road or reverse parking for 3 minutes, I just know its going to be a female driver out there, embarrassing their gender even more, and 9/10 I am right.

I think the main reason that women are such hideously bad at getting from A to B is that they don't realize that the name of the game is not to get from A to B. It is to travel as efficiently as possible between the 2 points.

Please, when you stay in the overtaking lane for the whole freeway trip, it may save you time doing that annoying 'overtaking' thing but it just turns you into a 50mph barrier for the majority of other vehicles.

Your mirrors are for looking in. See if there are drivers behind you and around you. Note where you are in the flow of traffic and oblige the lunatic in the green Honda Civic by moving into the driving lane of the freeway. Please.

Eddie Izzard speaks frankly

I've been a fan of Eddie Izzard for many years, dating back to when he was on the stand up circuit in the UK in the early '90s.

I have some of his shows on DVD including Dress to Kill and Live at Wembley.

He is a quite humorous young chap.

So I was very happy to stumble across a blog entry over at Dyslexia Untied about Eddie having a frank and open talk about his dyslexia.

Dyslexia: Eddie Izzard talks to the BBC about Creativity

Quite an interesting little read.  And a great blog!

Who Am I?

Who am I?

First of all I'm not Jean Valles Jean -  just in case you were wondering.

Instead of actually telling you who I am I thought I'd just give you a few pictures from some of my favorite blogs (in no particular order) - and you can further fill the picture in your mind as to who Jumblerant really is:

We meet again!

Yes, it's been a while, but I've been busy with work, baby and a bit more work.

I'm not complaining, I love the baby and I really enjoy the work and the atmosphere at the office. It just doesn't leave me much time to do anything else.

So here goes:

Some interesting Star Wars pictures;

I Love People

I do! I love people. Whenever we feel that everything has been done, and that the boundaries have been found - we find more and more ways to push the envelope.

I only noticed one faker in the bunch. How many did you find?

When Times Were Simpler

Do you remember the 'old days'? Weren't they 'better days'?

The Fonz on TV, no seat-belts, polio and TB rampant in the country and so on?

Here are some short films to help you reminisce

To wit; To Woot

I hate spending money. I love buying techie gadgets. I love deals.

So http://deals.woot.com/sellout is for me. And probably for you too.

Quite simply they buy an amount of an interesting product - everything from remote controlled helicopters to thermometers and computers - and thent hey sell it on at a nice price.

But they have a limited quantity so there's not much discussion time!

I just bought me one of these for my iTouch and iPhone 4 (from work)

For $20 I'll be happy that I know where the iPhone is all the time and I'll have the latest podcasts on my iTouch.

A win-win situation.

Pre-election Washington last weekend

He's gone, been and done it again. The genius behind Of Mule Dung And Ash has put up a post that made me smile, cringe and want to share it with the world.

The Internet Being Used Properly

There are those who argue that the internet corrupts, teaches our children things they don't need to know, and things they don't need to see.

Personally, I think that the correct use of the internet can be seen below.

Harry, you have been punked!!

Loving it...

You Want Good TV

You can't handle it!!

Okay, so I'm on a bit of a caffeine freak out right now but seriously, the best TV show I've seen in 2010? Sherlock

No $#!+ Sherlock. An English show that modernizes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's logical detective character, utilizing mobile phones, iPads and a great take on Dr. Watson.

Definitely worth a peek.

But not this one, this is a bit advanced even for a Holmes fan like myself:

For more new BBC Sherlock detailed info then just click here

Or buy it from Amazon, below.

A Thousand Words is Worth a Picture

Really? Think I've lost the plot a bit? Well here is the picture of my blog 'For I Am Man - Hear Me Roar'.

Wordle: Hear me roar, for I am man

So what do you think of that then eh?? So 'man', 'fine' and 'sex' were most oft used. Makes you think...

Thanks to www.wordle.net

Focusing on the Tool — It’s not just for Gun Control

(Oct. 17) — An Italian region struggling with policing the sex trade along a heavily wooded road has come up with a novel solution: Just chop down the forest.
That’s right — they can’t change the behavior so they are going after the tool that is used.
According to the Guardian newspaper, the regional government of Abruzzo in central Italy has tried 24-hour patrols, raids and cameras to curb the rampant sex trade on the Bonifica del Tronto road — all to no effect.

Finally, Angelo di Paolo, the regional government’s notoriously decisive public works chief, decided that fighting the forest would be much easier then fighting the sex trade. He declared that all the vegetation on or around the banks of the River Tonto would be cut down.
If that doesn’t illustrate the stupidity of focusing on the tools instead of the criminals, I don’t know what does.
Please join the discussion.

Every now and then I find something on the interwebs that warns me to stop, take a breath and look around.

I've not yet read this one, but I know that I'll enjoy it.

For I Am Man - Hear Me Roar

Because I’m a man, when I lock my keys in the Car, I will fiddle with a coat hanger long After hypothermia has set in. Calling AAA is not an option. I will win.

Because I’m a man, when the car isn’t running very well, I will pop the hood and stare at the engine as if I know what I’m looking at. If another man shows up, one of us will say to the other, “I used to be able to fix these things, but now with all these computers and everything, I wouldn’t know where to start.” We will then drink a couple of beers and break wind, as a form of holy communion.

Because I’m a man, when I catch a cold, I need someone to bring me soup and take care of me while I lie in bed and moan. You’re a woman. You never get as sick as I do, so for you, this is no problem.

Because I’m a man, I can be relied upon to purchase basic groceries at the store, like milk or bread. I cannot be expected to find exotic items like “cumin” or “tofu.” For all I know, these are the same thing…

Because I’m a man, when one of our appliances stops working, I will insist on taking It apart, despite evidence that this will just cost me twice as much once the repair person gets here and has to put it back together.

Because I’m a man, I must hold the TV remote control in my hand while I watch TV. If the thing has been misplaced, I may miss a whole show looking for it, Though one time I was able to survive by holding a Nokia 6110 instead .

Because I’m a man, there is no need to ask me what I’m thinking about. The true answer is always either sex, cars, sex, guns, sex, sports or sex. I have to make up something else when you ask, so just don’t ask.

Because I’m a man, you don’t have to ask me if I liked the movie. Chances Are, if you’re crying at the end of it, I didn’t… And if you are feeling amorous afterward … Then I will certainly at least remember the name and recommend it to others.

Because I’m a man, I think what you’re wearing is fine. I thought what you were wearing five minutes ago was fine, too. Either pair of shoes is fine. With the belt or without it, looks fine. It does not make your ass look too big. It was the pasta and potatoes and margaritas that did that. Your hair is fine. You look fine. Can we just go now?

Because I’m a man, and this is, after all, 2010, I will share equally in the housework. You just do the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning, the vacuuming, And the dishes, and I’ll do the rest. Like wandering around in the garden with a beer, wondering what to do.

This has been a public service message for women hoping to better understand men.

5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe

We had a couple of friends (or is it a brace or a clutch of friends?) stay over for the weekend. Atone point our Danish friend - no really, she is from Denmark, not made of pastry, asked if I had heard of the 5 Minute Chocolate Cake Recipe.

Not only had I heard of it, made it and loved it, but I was sure I had blogged about it.

Well bugger me if I can't find it anywhere on the site! I must be going insane. So here it is in all it's yummy glory:

Five Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

a small splash of vanilla extract

1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high). The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
Really enjoy!!
