A Peak Behind the Photographic Curtain - Update

Last year I wrote about Yosef Adest, in 'A Peak Behind the Photographic Curtain' as an up and coming photographer and cinematographer - I'd go so far as to call him a very talented, high level 'visualist', but then again, that's just me.

Well he just gave a great TEDx talk:

101 Kinds of 'Wow' - Zach Galifianakis

Way back in December 2013 I wrote a little piece about giving His Majesty the Justin of Bieber some respect for interviewing with Zach Galifianakis. I had no idea that this charming individual was taken so seriously as to have politicians come to his studio and his 2 ferns.

And yet, here is the most powerful man in the world. In between 2 ferns.

Yeah, it blew my mind too.

Revenge Is Sweet

Jeff Gordon is a top NASCAR driver, and a bit of a hero of mine too.

About a year ago he joined up Pepsi to scare the bejesus out of a car salesman, by disguising his looks and then taking a car for a test drive. With the car salesman in the passenger sit, not knowing that he was driving with one of the top drivers in the USA.

The salesman's terrified reactions, and subsequent reaction to discovering it was a NASCAR driver all along, earned the Pepsi spot more than 40 million views on YouTube.

Not everyone was so impressed with the stunt, many taking to the interwebz to deride young Mr Gordon as a fraud and a falsifier. One of those deriding the stunt was Travis Okulski, a reporter for the Jalopnik website.

Okulski's words seem to have annoyed Mr Gordon, or at least, given those clever chaps at Pepsi a way to make yet another cheap and easy ad ;-)

in the ad below, Gordon disguises himself as an ex-con (I did 10 years inside) cab driver who gets pulled over by the local law enforcement. What ensues is quite funny, and I just wonder what I would do if I were in Mr Okulski's situation.

The video has just under 14 million views at the time of going to press.

"So, just as I was able to say with total certainty that the first Pepsi Test Drive ad was totally fake, I can say with total certainty that this second Pepsi Test Drive ad is unequivocally, one hundred percent, totally, absolutely real," Okulski writes.

Youc an read Okulski's side of the story here: How Jeff Gordon Scraed The Crap Out Of Me With This Epic Prank

Just Plain Ugly

I was watching an amazing National Geographic show about the American Wild West, narrated by none other than his amazingness, Timothy Olyphant, of Justified fame.

The show is either great or abysmal - I'm still undecided. Its one of those shows where they stand on the precipice of good taste by making analogies of basically everything. in this instance, to the Old Days of The Wild West. There are 'Homesteaders', 'varmints', and they even call a banana snail 'Slick'.

Yes, its that bad.

On the other hand, the photography is stunning, showing us another angle to the western side of the USA.

Oh, and the ugly? That'd be an underwater elf shown as an aside in the first show.

Yup - just plain ugly.

Self Healing Phone: The Future is Here

I'm always worried when I put my keys in my pocket along with my phone. Will I scratch my screen? Will everything drop out when I get a phone call? Will my ringxiety or hypovibrochondria cause me to grab for my phone to no avail?

Now there is an answer to at least one of my phone issues. Allow me to introduce to you, the self healing phone:

My only question here is - when will they have this on cars, boats and planes?

Change You Can Believe In

Obamacare, Peace with Iran, Thanks Giving, Hanukah and oh, so much more, but here is what fell between the cracks, as they always have done:

Curious about the 100,000 Homes Campaign? Participating communities have already housed over 73,000 people across teh USA, including 21,000 veterans.

The US Government in Shutdown

I was a bit confused when I first heard that the US Government was shutting down because Congress had an issue getting their job done.

It turns out that certain arms of the government are not going to receive their funding so they started their quickest way of saving money - sending the employees off on unpaid leave or furlough.

According to my calculations, based on an article in the New York Times, 784,710 of the just under 2 million employees affected will go on furlough.

784710/2000000 = 0.392355

So 39%.

Not much really.

So why all the furore? Maybe because Washington's trash won't be picked up.

Or is it because Al Gore might just turn off the internet as he walks out of his office?

2nd Amendment Rights

I am very interested in the US Constitution, especially the 2nd Amendment Rights which is the section protecting the citizen's right to bear arms. 2nd Amendment Rights are a hot topic at the moment, and I guess have been for years.

Please, please, please, don't send the scrapings from the bottom of the barrel to argue your case. Ever.

Sadly, John Oliver, one of the greatest comedians of this decade, manages to pull apart this spokesperson and make him look like a fool. The 2nd Amendment rights also look bad after this, which it shouldn't.

Happy Passover

Its been a busy few weeks here, President Obama came to visit, and its always nice to have guests! Spring is on its way too, which has caused some very 'interesting' weather - last Friday we reached 88F and this Friday? Rain. Yup. We're all discombibulated.

So we're at that time of year again. Passover! We clean the house, as best we can, and get ready for more days outside, and less days huddled around the radiators.

Herewith, 2 videos extolling the Passover Festival.

Have a nice day now, y'all.

The main reason i loved this video, apart from a great wealth of jokes to taunt my son with? My favourite joke of all time is in there.
