Losing Weight The Easy Way

As anyone who knows me will tell you when describing your humble Jumblerant blogger, 'he ain't no skinny'.

Recently I have gotten into a good workout routine, gym 3-5 days a week, and not just for the free hot showers!Weights and jogging are my thing, more weights, than jogging as I have never really been a runner. I have good friends who do triathlons and even Iron Man events.

Triathlon races vary in distance. According to the International Triathlon Union, and USA Triathlon, the main international race distances are:
  1. Sprint Distance; 750 meter (.465 mi) swim, 20 kilometer (12.5 mi) bike, 5 kilometer (3.1 mi) run
  2. Intermediate (or Standard) distance; commonly referred to as the "Olympic distance": 1.5 kilometer (.93 mi) swim, 40 kilometer (25 mi) bike, 10 kilometer (6.2 mi) run
  3. Long Course; commonly referred to as 70.3 or the 'half-Ironman'; 1.9 kilometer (1.2 mi) swim, 90 kilometer (56 mi) bike, and a 21.1 kilometer (13.1 mi) run
  4. Ultra Distance; commonly referred to as 140.6 or the 'Ironman'; 3.8 kilometer (2.4 mi) swim, 180.2 kilometer (112 mi) bike, and a full marathon: 42.2 kilometer (26.2 mi) run.

As a result of all of my friends getting healthy / working out their mid life crises, I was very happy to see that one of my favourite authors and bloggers - Bayou Renaissance Man - had a new fitness video up on his site.

Enjoy!!

Female Rising

I am in a weird kind of awe of the gall, cheek and really exceptionally bad manners of this woman:

And a different kind of awe for this lady: (watch this one until the end)

And a whole bucket load of respect for these girls:

GEOX - Scream Challenge with Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team

Oh those advertising people are clever.

They took a shoe competition, 2 formula 1 drivers and an empty racing track and they got a good few advertisements out of it.

What did they do? They took the winners of a competition and said they had won 20 pairs of  shoes. To get all 20 they had to do one lap in the passenger seat of a car, driven by a Formula 1 driver.

Not so bad?

Well, there was one simple rule; For every scream they emit, they lose one pair of shoes.

Here are the results:

Formula 1 - Easy Driving

A friend of mine and I were chatting the other day over a pint of wine... and I found out that he used to be an F1 fan but stopped when he started working on Sundays.

I tried to update him about the goings on in the sport and tried to explain to him just how much more technologically challenging the driver's role is today.

Here are 2 views of how the steering wheel in an F1 car creates challenges for the driver.

The Good, Bad & Ugly* of long-distance scooter riding

An internet chum of mine just went on a rather amazing 24hr trip. He attempted a 1,000 mile trip in 24 hours. On a scooter.

Here are some quotes:

VespaImage by sigma. via FlickrIt doesn't matter how old you are or how fit you think you are, riding a scooter for 24 hours (or anything close to that long) is physically demanding. The word 'grueling' comes to mind now that I'm on the other side of it.

A good chunk of my ride took me through two of the more inhospitable sections of desert in the world (the Negev and Arava). Twice!

'Nuff said! Read more about it and maybe donate to his cause. I know I will...
