YouTube Music Awards - A Surprising Winner

I love all things Google, thats why this blog is written on Blogger and in Chrome. I won't say that everything they do is amazing, like any multinational organisation they have their good points, and their not so good points.

The latest thing to come out of YouTube is their Music Awards. Instead of pressing a button to vote, or submitting your email address, they have chosen a much better way. Tweets, likes and G+s.

Very simple. You like an artist? Tweet, FaceBook 'like' or Google+ the YouTube Music Video of them.

Nice.

I voted for her majesty the Katy of Perry for she is funny, gorgeous, voluptuous and a real person.

So I was happy to see that a hospital had done a cover of her latest single 'Roar'. And it rocked:

See if you can keep your eyes dry through that!

I've mentioned the Axis of Awesome before here. So I was, and I don't use this phrase lightly, 'well chuffed' to see them on Damn Cool Pic's blog performing a very interesting little '90s megamix  on the melodica.

As the great man says himself 'What's better than a '90s megamix? A '90s megamix played on melodica, that's what! Take a look at this compilation of '90s hits played on a curious instrument'

More Amazing Bloggers To Follow

I've started a new job recently and as I am now at the computer 25 hours a day I have been somewhat remiss on keeping up with 'mon bloggage'.

I dipped into Google Reader today and stumbled upon 3 insanely different blogs which I regularly read and smile at. What they had to say made me think about who I am, or more specifically, what I read to improve myself.

Here are the blogs;

And I'd just like to add that Blogger really is beginning to pish me off. I have tried repeatedly to change the font and layout of this and previous posts to no avail.

I am seriously considering moving over to WordPress because of it. What do you think? Good or bad idea?

Where To Go And What To Do?

I've been thinking about where this blog is going and what it’s all about recently, as I have found myself with more time to focus on Jumblerant than I had expected.

Its not like I’ve been thinking too deeply mind you, after all its a blog, not the answer to life itself, the solution to MidEast problems or even the ultra-secret formula to Coke.

So I turned to some bloggers who I really respect, like Frank W. James over at Corn, beans, spent brass, an empty page and a deadline where he posts great movie reviews like this one on Hanna - which I'd never heard of before but now really want to watch! Or this general blog called When Things Go Wrong On The Farm which is just an example of his blogging greatness.

Then I went over to Jay G at Marooned  and saw some funny stuff, which is more like the output I've been creating recently. So I was relieved to see that I was not the only one out there blogging this (for want of a better word) genre.

And finally I visited ASM826 over at Random Acts of Patriotism and saw some of his posts such as Doing My Part (aka Save the Tatas) where I concluded that there really are great bloggers out there who I can try and emulate.

And I will strive to do so!

Bandwidth Theft

When I put up a picture here on Blogger, Blogger pays for the server for the amount of data stored.

If I were to use a private server then I would pay for any picture / data stored on it.

A picture such as the above would not cut into the maximum bandwidth allowed but over time, and as more people direct other readers to it, the costs add up. So how annoyed should a blogger be when someone hosts their image (bandwidth) on another site without permission? Neptunus Lex shares with us how annoyed he got and what he did about it.

A brief photo essay on the perils of hotlinking other people’s digital imagery rather than hosting your own.

Here endeth the lesson.
I'm sure the Saudi Arabian forum that stole the picture from him quickly heard about their mistake!!

An open letter to Blogger

Dear Blogger,

Thank you very much for giving so many of us the opportunity to share our feelings, findings and photos with the world at large. I have made new friends, found old friends as well as expanded my mind with your great product BUT why oh why is it so darned difficult to work with?

My award winning and tear jerking posting of last night 'My Brain Beat Me' should have been an easy thing to preview in Google Reader, something like this:

But instead it looked like this;

"Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";..."

Which was rather disappointing as even though it is nonsensical I did in fact not write it.

I spent over 4 minutes writing the post in question, and over 12 minutes thinking about it. Please send me 16 minutes so that I can feel better about Blogger after this controversial and insulting episode. (We know you can do that, you're owned by Google for crying out loud!)

And whilst you're at it please add a YouTube button (also owned by Google) allowing us bloggers easier access to YouTube videos. And a workable retweet button would be useful. And presents, send me presents because I like them.

Oops I feel the meds beginning to kick in...

Blogger ain't so bad

I read a few blogs on a daily basis, you can see my blogroll to the right to see exactly whom.

Through these expert, witty and informational Bloggers I have felt that there are a few out there who are not so enamored with Google's Blogger.

Blogger (service)Image via Wikipedia

I have had some issues with it myself, namely that I want to change the preview in a feed to all of the blog, and not just the first 250ish digits. And I can't. And their Help Section is rubbish.

On the other hand the main moan I've heard form others is that the timing option - to send out a blog at a specific time and date - doesn't work.
But this weekend it did it for me. Twice.

So I guess I won't be ranting about them this blog.
