New Music Evolving

My big thing recently, apart from the family and work, of course, is music at work.

I sit in an awesome office with some of the nicest chaps on the planet, but sometimes I just need to crawl into my own headspace and think.

English: Garbage in 2005.YouTube is an upcoming platform for music (but I digress)  as is SoundCloud and Grooveshark. Facebook is one of the more unusual places I've gotten latched onto a new singer, and in this instance at least, I am very happy I did. as it led on to another talent and then another!

My first surprise was when Garbage (left), a band I have always loved, posted a video on facebook of Kawehi covering one of their classics. I had to listen and was impressed:

After I had listened to it a few times I let it play in the background and then it led to another awesome artiste, KHS:

So whats next?

I'll keep you updated, unless, of course you have some music for me to listen to! Post it in the comments...

Print is Dead! Long Live Print?

In todays modern age, it is argued, people don't have time to read a newspaper. Even more critical, newspapers are no longer the 'go to' medium for the latest news, but is print dead?

For years there have been articles in online magazines stating for a fact that print is dead such as in this great article by Jordan Kurzweil Print is Dead! Long Live Print? And then there are the counter articles 'Who Said Print Was Dead?' and of course, 'The beautiful magazines setting out to prove print isn't dead'

What we forget whenever we see an 'old', stereotyped industry having issues is that there is always new blood coming through, pushing the boundaries of what we thought we knew.

Many people ask 'How can the fuddy-duddy old print industry live in 2015 and onwards?'. I don't need to give an answer when I can show you:

Energy. Passion. Cutting edge technology and a winning smile!

On top of those pioneers in an old field who are using twitter, youtube and other social media to get the word out, there is still digital journalism, and it appears that whenever it is not used to prop up an old and failing newspaper, it does rather well as this Interview with Mathew Ingram of GigaOM on Journalism, Social, and The Next Big Thing - will show you.

Anyway, I'm off to read a book.

On my Kindle.

One Excellent Ad

Some products are really hard to sell and need some serious innovation to get the branding and messaging across, such as gas, fabric conditioner and tissues.

Similar to the amazing Dollar Shave ad that I spoke about here, there is a new twist on tampons.

Enjoy!! (no seriously, it is enjoyable).

What is the Internet?

An interesting question, no doubt. The internet is a place where everyone can place and retrieve any information they want. Simple enough? Oh, but how they do it, what tools they use and how we ourselves interface with it is something else altogether.

I think this little video explains it very well.

I do enjoy me some new music, and Pomplamoose is one of my fave new bands. I've written about them when they did a great cover of Angry Birds music.

And here they are again, showing just what great musicians and indeed, actors and dancers, they are as they begin the change from popular music to electronic:

What do you think?

And if you go and look at the old videos you'll see how Jack changes his style...

Bing booboo

I recently received an email from Bing inviting me to 'Be one of the first to try out the new Bing'.

Very nice! Maybe they're ready to fight Google for search engine presence, maybe its a revolution that's going to rock the internet. Facebook IPO?

This might be just the announcement to knock the multi-billion dollar Facebook off headline news.

So I click on the link, anticipating a change that'll knock my socks off.

Oh yeah baby. Here we go.

The revolution is here.

Google is going to be toppled!

Silly buggers!

Oh well, back to trustworthy and reliable google.com

Some Linky Love

I've been reading my Google Reader feed more and more  these days, mainly because I'm getting fed up seeing the same misery guts reporting in the newspapers time after time.

Here are a few of my favourite posts from some awesome bloggers:

Insomniacmedic brings his 'A' game with his post Missing

Blackfork writes about his stumbling across Killer Joe Piro - back in 1942

Neptunus Lex writes his about his last foray into supersonic flight in his intoxicating post 'Night and Day'

Ambulance Driver had some not very nice news recently, so let's help cheer him up by sharing his excellent post “Winter Wings” by A Day in the Life of An Ambulance Driver

And here is a stunning picture:An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "...

Song A Day: 1000 Days and Counting

I've been spending a lot of time on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn over the 'Season' and I found some very interesting stuff.

I found a great album by Jonny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways

I spent nearly 20 minutes creating my new Facebook timeline picture. With pictures from Facebook.

I started listening to Grooveshark all over the place.

I started using Tweetlogix for all of my Twitter needs (@jumblerant)

I started using Flipboard on my iPhone - and my son keeps deleting it. So I keep adding it.

And then I found this nugget of greatness. This amazing introduction to a chap who I will be keeping my eye on in 2012;

I'm looking forward to hearing some great, adequate and crappy songs.

Allan McNish

In my last, earth shattering, blog post 'Twitter, iPhones and Fast Cars' which caused furor in the world of... well, nowhere really.

Anyway...

I have always been a fan of motor-sport so it was interesting for me to see this week that 'Le Mans 24 hour' was trending on Google, Twitter and YouTube.

YouTube? Here's why:

At the time of writing, this clip had over 2,400,000 views. Nice.

And the funky thing for me? I've been in touch with Allan McNish in the past, discussing Formula 1 stuff on Twitter.

Weird to see someone you 'know' going through such a crash.

Twitter, iPhones and Fast Cars

I do love me some fast car action.

I have been a fan of Formula 1 for over 25 years (OMG!!) and I can always be tempted to watch some of the feeder formulae too.Formula One 2011

There are some great Formula 1 blogs out there. I personally think that Sidepodcast and Formula1blog.com are two of the leading ones. In fact is was Sidepodcast's latest announcement that brought me to write this blog entry.

I follow Formula1blog.com's Todd aka 'Negative Camber' and Grace via my iPhone, and their weekly podcast.

And on Foursquare.

And Twitter.

And I comment on their forums and website.

Sidepodcast have just launched a great App for the iPhone which brings you the latest Formula 1 info as written and read. And they have a seriously awesome SERIES of weekly podcasts. And they have live race coverage. And tweet like crazy.

Hey Toto, we're not in Kansas any more. Waving a flag and wearing a Ferrari top just isn't gonna cut it as a fan. This is some serious technology that's being used here - and all for free (to the end-user) and all created by fans without any advertising or business model.

This surely is the way the world is going. And as always, its the 'little people' with a passion who lead the way.

You heard it here first...

Facebook. Just Do It

I used to live on Facebook (or FB as I call it). I find out what people I went to nursery with are doing, I find out how my old schoolmates' divorces are coming along and I see just how limp and pathetic some of my closer chums and pals can be when it comes to presenting themselves to the world on FB.

Here are some clues on how not to look like a complete and utter muppet on Facebook:

An open letter to Blogger

Dear Blogger,

Thank you very much for giving so many of us the opportunity to share our feelings, findings and photos with the world at large. I have made new friends, found old friends as well as expanded my mind with your great product BUT why oh why is it so darned difficult to work with?

My award winning and tear jerking posting of last night 'My Brain Beat Me' should have been an easy thing to preview in Google Reader, something like this:

But instead it looked like this;

"Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";..."

Which was rather disappointing as even though it is nonsensical I did in fact not write it.

I spent over 4 minutes writing the post in question, and over 12 minutes thinking about it. Please send me 16 minutes so that I can feel better about Blogger after this controversial and insulting episode. (We know you can do that, you're owned by Google for crying out loud!)

And whilst you're at it please add a YouTube button (also owned by Google) allowing us bloggers easier access to YouTube videos. And a workable retweet button would be useful. And presents, send me presents because I like them.

Oops I feel the meds beginning to kick in...

Oops, you forgot

I know you're busy and have all those chores to do.

And then there's that Buffy marathon going on later. And the kids need a bath.

Twitter isn't going to tweet itself and you just have to Facebook that kindergarten friend of yours from 28 years ago who doesn't even live on the same continent as you BUT you completely forgot to go here and vote for me by copying and pasting the 3 lines of info below;

Jumblerant

I know!! Crazy isn't it?

What you also forgot was that not only can I easily find out where you live, but I also know where to buy gasoline and matches ;-0

Subtlety and not so subtlety didn't really work did it? 3rd times the charm.

Kidneys, livers and hearts I understand, but fat?

Its safe for me to return to Peru now.

The land of Paddington Bear and the location for Stephen Fry's (praise be The Tweet) amazing books and documentaries;

'Paddington Bear: The Early Years'
'Stephen Fry and the Spectacled Bears'
'Rescuing the Spectacled Bear: A Peruvian Diary'

My sister, who we all now know is not obese or even 'puffy' would have been safe in Peru even though it has come to light, with the arrest of 3 local Peruvians, that over 60 people were murdered.

And why were so many innocent lives taken? Organ sellers? Blood collectors? To get their money or valuables?

No.

To sell their fat on the blackmarket for cosmetic use in Europe.

WTF??

This is some scary stuff. And more reason than ever for me to get on with this exercise and diet regime.

Why I don't use twitter

As twitter takes over the world and His Amazingness Stephen Fry takes twits seriously, please click on the link below to understand why I am currently an untwitterer.

Flutter - the new Twitter

Now that Oprah has named herself the Queen of Twitter, and that nonce from That 70's Show who is going out with Demi Moore was the first to get 1,000,000 followers on Twitter, we are now looking ahead to what the next technology is.

Why the url adn not a fancy YouTube video? Because the buggers wouldn't let me upload the video!! Despite / to spite them go there and have look.

I'm too tired to work around the problem. And too lazy i guess.
