All 2011 Films in Under 8 Minutes

This video finally answers the question: What would the entire year in film look like as one massive, epic trailer? Mashup artist “hatinhand” stitched together pretty much every major film released in 2011 into this epic video, “The 2011 Portfolio” which is as much a retrospective as it is a glimpse into how similar films have become.

On a personal level it made me sit up and notice what I've been missing by just watching the 'regular' TV shows.

Methinks it might be time to spice up my life a bit with a few films to watch with Her Indoors.

Johnny Cash - We'll Meet Again

Without doubt Mr. Johnny Cash was one of his generation's greatest country singers. Classics such as Fulsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire and Walk The Line as well as A Boy Named Sue - make us all tap our feet.

His video (below) of Hurt, has over 35 million hits on YouTube. Astonishing!

And when you realise that his career took off with 'Ring of Fire' back in the old days of black and white TV!

I was listening to Mr J Cash on Grooveshark at work and after 2 hours of music I knew, I heard words that I recognised, but not in the way Johnny was singing them.

The original that I recognised -

And Mr Cash's version;

Which do you prefer?

Sesame Street meets Glee

Glorious and gorgeous!

Glittering Glee and salacious Sesame Street have gathered their group of generic artistes  to generate this generational gap gutting clip.

Queen Google

Blogger has a new interface so for now they're safe. I'm not quite up to moving to Wordpress yet. But the second they muck it up - I'll be soooo gone!

And for your delight and delectation today? Google. Yes Mr. Google and his elves have created quite the splendiferous logo for today's celebrity birthday - Mr. Queen (not Steve Mc - Freddie Mercury).

Which, when clicked, gives the most amazing song and cartoon  dance routine I've seen for a while - here;

Allan McNish

In my last, earth shattering, blog post 'Twitter, iPhones and Fast Cars' which caused furor in the world of... well, nowhere really.

Anyway...

I have always been a fan of motor-sport so it was interesting for me to see this week that 'Le Mans 24 hour' was trending on Google, Twitter and YouTube.

YouTube? Here's why:

At the time of writing, this clip had over 2,400,000 views. Nice.

And the funky thing for me? I've been in touch with Allan McNish in the past, discussing Formula 1 stuff on Twitter.

Weird to see someone you 'know' going through such a crash.

How Would You Say 'I Do?'

It all began with a tweet. It was an innocent little tweet

'Guaranteed to make you a weepy mess: Greatest Marriage Proposal EVER!!! http://youtu.be/pnVAE91E7kM'

So I clicked on the link and found this:

Which I thought was AWESOME!!

So I went onto the good ship Google and looked for a few more interesting proposals. You know, there aren't that many intimate, subtle proposals on film, here are a few outlandish, public and I'm guessing, somewhat scary, proposals.

Angry Birds & Pomplamoose

As I mentioned on this very blog back in November 2009, in the brief yet interesting post Put your ears back and listen I like cover bands and I especially like Pomplamoose.

I also like me a little bit of Angry Birds on my iPhone.

Image representing Angry Birds as depicted in ...Image via CrunchBaseIts all harmless murder of innocent pigs with a catapult and a variety of birds as ammunition.

Yeah. That didn't come out as well as I'd hoped.

Anyway, Pomplamoose are a great cover duo, so good in fact that I have included a variety of their offerings below.

Enjoy!

Sell-out or buy-in?

A friend of mine on Facebook (oh yeah Princess L., I'm talking about you) mentioned the marvelous OKGO and their videos.

Admittedly. she is a bit behind as I have mentioned them a few times in my blog: like here and here  and more...

But it got me thinking and so I went over to the OKGO YouTube site and looked at their latest video. And I was disappointed, I think....

You see, their latest video is fun, and colorful and interesting but was sponsored by Land Rover. Now I get that they make music because they love it and that they need to eat and pay the rent but really? Get sponsored to make the video? I think that's a bit much.

So what do you think? How does the latest video compare with their previous vids?

Heck, a video with musicians in ghillie suits? Respect!!

Helen & Olly present one of the most amazing podcasts around, but if you're not into podcasts then here are a few of their videos on YouTube about Good ol' Great Britain;

Their old podcasts are available on iTunes and, if you're not too squeamish about a bit of swearing - go there and buy them. NOW!!

Going All Serious

Don't worry, I'm only getting all serious for this one post.

I just get so upset by what is happening in Israel that I want to post a couple of these YouTube videos and get your reactions.

And it says a lot when a normal teenager decides to post a literate, concise plea for help from the world:

And a nice prize is on offer for anyone who can answer all of Dry Bones' questions below:

Modern Evolution

Wearing my 'pedantic hat' I guess that there can be no such thing as 'modern evolution'. However, below you can see the evolution of an idea from TV ad to digitized cartoon to, cartoonified* video, to TV ad.

And then to a few new versions that are basically copies (at last count YouTube had over 400 'Boom De Ah Dah' videos posted).

I guess its more a Revolution than an Evolution

An open letter to Blogger

Dear Blogger,

Thank you very much for giving so many of us the opportunity to share our feelings, findings and photos with the world at large. I have made new friends, found old friends as well as expanded my mind with your great product BUT why oh why is it so darned difficult to work with?

My award winning and tear jerking posting of last night 'My Brain Beat Me' should have been an easy thing to preview in Google Reader, something like this:

But instead it looked like this;

"Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";..."

Which was rather disappointing as even though it is nonsensical I did in fact not write it.

I spent over 4 minutes writing the post in question, and over 12 minutes thinking about it. Please send me 16 minutes so that I can feel better about Blogger after this controversial and insulting episode. (We know you can do that, you're owned by Google for crying out loud!)

And whilst you're at it please add a YouTube button (also owned by Google) allowing us bloggers easier access to YouTube videos. And a workable retweet button would be useful. And presents, send me presents because I like them.

Oops I feel the meds beginning to kick in...

They've invaded the internet

I grew up in the (ahem) 70's with the Muppet Show and Sesame Street. I was allowed to watch as much of either of them as I liked, which in all honesty wasn't more than half an hour a day as we had no VCR but we did have British terrestrial TV.

As technology advanced the foam puppets moved over to Fraggle Rock and eventually even that was replaced on the TV shows, for the next generation of kids, by Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Postman Pat and other imaginative heroes.

I recently found out that my beloved wife, Mrs Jumblerant (aka Her Indoors or Mrs J) did not watch Sesame Street or the Muppet Show as a child. Her elder siblings made sure that the first programs she watched were Happy Days and The Love Boat. Sadly she missed out. She never learnt rudimentary Spanish on the stoop with Maria, or how to count, with the Count.

Sesame Street marked 40 years of production on the 10th November and I'm happy to say that our son Jack will be able to grow up with the The Muppet Show as well as it starts to make a return on YouTube.

Click here to get to the Muppet Show Channel on YouTube for some modern-day Muppet Show fun.

And here, thanks to Topless Robot, is the Muppet Show's 10 Weirdest Moments.

100 Greatest Hits of youTube

As a YouTube-aholic I was glued to my monitor whilst this was on.

And I laughed hysterically.

And hurt my ribs a bit too.

Hope you do too. (The laughing bit, not the pain).

Flutter - the new Twitter

Now that Oprah has named herself the Queen of Twitter, and that nonce from That 70's Show who is going out with Demi Moore was the first to get 1,000,000 followers on Twitter, we are now looking ahead to what the next technology is.

Why the url adn not a fancy YouTube video? Because the buggers wouldn't let me upload the video!! Despite / to spite them go there and have look.

I'm too tired to work around the problem. And too lazy i guess.
